The work of Gilbert Richards is an exploration of the visual and haptic qualities of the image: at what point does one leave a trace of themselves? What is it for something to be beautiful? What defines the work of art as an artwork? It is, at times, a commentary on the globalised urbanisation of contemporary society and the shifts in notion of Utopia today. Reflecting on ideals of beauty in modern urbanised existence and exploring relations between chronology, history, mythology and authenticity the work seeks to articulate things that cannot be 'said' any other way.

Gilbert graduated from the department of visual cultures, Goldsmiths college with a masters in contemporary art theory in 2011.
